Create a Hardcover or Paperback Photo Books Create a Set of 3 Pocket Books

Overview

A PhotoBook is a custom-made book, designed by you, that showcases your photos in a beautiful, professional-quality, and durable format.

Unlike a photo album, in which prints are attached to paper pages or inserted into plastic slots, a PhotoBook prints your photos directly onto the pages, so it looks like a published book. In addition, you can choose page styles, write captions, edit your photos, and much more.

Snapfish offers 3 sizes of Photo Books:
  • hardcover: 21.25 x 28.75 cms
  • paperback:14.37x19.37 cms
  • set of 3 pocket books: 6.87 x 9.37 cms

Note: To create a Photo Book, you must have Macromedia Flash Player 9 or higher installed in your browser. If you do not have Flash 9, you will see a pop-up window asking whether you would like to download it. Downloading Flash is fast, easy, safe, and free.

Create a Hardcover or Paperback Photo Book

  1. Begin in the Snapfish store, which you can access by clicking the "store" tab at the top of most pages.
  2. From the store, click "Photo Book" in the list of favorites on the left side of the page.

Choose the Size, Style, and Cover
  1. On the next page, choose the size of your book by clicking on one of the buttons in the menu on the right side of the page. (Note: The instructions that follow are for large and medium Photo Books. See below to create a mini Photo Book.)
  2. On the same page, choose the style for your book. First, click the box below "choose a style" to open a window with options. You can click on each style to see how it will look in your book (note the changes in the book pictured in the main part of the screen). When you're satisfied with the style you have chosen, click "apply" to close the film strip window.
  3. Next, choose your book cover by clicking on the box below "choose a cover." You can click on each cover to see how it will look on your book (note the changes on the book pictured in the main part of the screen). When you're satisfied with the cover you have chosen, click "apply" to close the window.
  4. Then click "get started" at the bottom of the page.
  5. If, later in the process, you change your mind about the style and/or cover, just click "book features" in the toolbar on the right side of the page; you can change your size (between hardcover and paperback), style, and cover at any time.

 Create a Photobook

Select Photos

  1. Now it's time to select the photos for the book. After you click "get started," you'll see a new page with silhouettes of page layouts at the bottom of the screen and a toolbar to the right.
  2. Click the green "select photos" button in the toolbar.
  3. You will see a list of your albums to the left of the page. Click on any album title, and the photos in that album will be displayed on the main part of the screen. To view friends' albums, click the arrow next to "your albums" and then select "friends' albums".
  4. You can add any individual photo by clicking on it, or you can add all of the photos in an album by clicking "add all" at the top of the page. To remove any photo, simply roll over it in the photo well at the right, then click the red "click to remove" label.
  5. Navigate through your albums to select the photos for your Photo Book.
  6. If you'd like to use your current captions in the Photo Book, click "use captions from photos" in the toolbar to the right.
  7. When you have finished selecting photos, click "close" at the top of the page.

Let Snapfish Build Your Photo Book

  1. If you prefer, Snapfish can place your photos within the Photo Book for you. (If you want to place the photos yourself, continue on to Place Photos and Write Captions in Pages below.)
  2. After selecting your photos (see "Select Photos" above), simply click the "place photos for me" button in the toolbar on the right.
  3. All of the photos you have selected will appear in the main part of the screen.
  4. Use your mouse to drag and drop the photos into the correct order.
  5. Then click "place my photos."
  6. You may see a pop-up window informing you that you have selected more photos than the basic book can accommodate. You can choose to add pages to the book (which will increase the cost), remove some of the photos on your own, or have us select which photos to remove.
  7. Snapfish will automatically place your photos in the order in which you placed them. From here, you can edit any page you'd like, remove pages and photos, etc.
  8. You can also place additional photos again; just select more photos, then click "place my photos for me" a second time.

Select Page Layouts

  1. You can choose the photo layout for each page of your Photo Book.

Note: You may want to choose the layouts before you place the photos, or you may want to do it after, when you see how the photos look in the default layouts. Or you may want to do a combination, playing with layouts as you place the photos.

  2. Running along the bottom of the page, you'll see silhouettes of each page in your book, each with a default layout.
  3. To change the layout of any page, first click on its silhouette. The page will be highlighted in blue.
  4. Then click "layout" above the page in the film strip below.
  5. You'll see a pop-up window with layout options for pages with anywhere from 1 - 9 photos. You'll also see layout options for text-only pages.
  6. Choose a layout by clicking on it, and then click "apply." The new layout will appear in your Photo Book, in the main part of the page.

Place Photos and Write Captions

  1. Running along the bottom of the page, you'll see silhouettes of each page in your book, each with a default layout. To change any layout, follow the instructions in "Select Page Layouts" above.
  2. You can click on each silhouette to make it appear in the main part of the screen. Or you can go through the book page by page, clicking "next page" at the bottom right corner of the main part of the screen.
  3. For each page of your book, drag a photo (from the photos on the right) to one of the available photo slots. (To see all of your photos, use the blue button to scroll down.)
  4. Some page layouts include space to write captions. These spaces appear in a lighter gray than photo slots and read "click to add caption." When you click on a caption slot, you'll see a pop-up window allowing you to write a caption, select a font, and select how you would like the text to be aligned. When you're satisfied with your caption, click "apply."

Note: Text only layouts allow you to choose font size. Please check to make sure that your caption appears in full on the page when you switch from small to medium or large.

  5. Fill each page of your Photo Book with photos and captions.

Choose Backgrounds and Borders

  1. When you have filled the pages of your Photo Book with photos and captions, it's time to choose page backgrounds and photo borders.

Note: You can also choose backgrounds and borders as you fill each page with photos. However, it might be easier once you have determined where all of the photos go and have a general sense of the layout of your book.

  2. Just as you did for selecting page layouts and placing photos, you can access each page by clicking on its silhouette at the bottom, or you can scroll through the book page by page, by using the "next page" button.
  3. On each page, you will see a "backgrounds button at the top. On pages where borders are allowed, you will also see a "borders" button. (Some layouts, like the full-bleed photo layout and layouts where photos touch edges, do not allow borders.)
  4. To choose a background, click "backgrounds." A pop-up window with background options will appear. Click on the background you want, and click "apply." Repeat for every page where you want to change the background. If you'd like to use the same background on every page, click the "apply to all" check box.
  5. To choose borders for the photos on the page, click "borders." A pop-up window with border options will appear. Click on the border than you want, and then click "apply." Repeat for every page where you want borders. If you'd like to use the same border on every page, click the "apply to all" check box.

Organize Pages

  1. At any time while you create your Photo Book, you can move the pages around.
  2. At the bottom of any page, click "sort pages."
  3. You will see the page silhouettes lined up in the center of the screen.
  4. First, select whether you would like single-sided or double-sided page spreads by clicking "single/double-sided".
  5. Next, you can sort your pages by dragging and dropping them. Just click on a page and drag it to the position where you want it. Then release the click. The page will drop in to its new position, moving the other pages over by a single page.
  6. You can also add and remove pages in this spread. See "Add and Remove Pages" below.
  7. When you're satisfied with your new organization, click "OK."

Add and Remove Pages and Photos

  2. To add a page, click "add a page", then select where you'd like the new page placed from the drop-down selection.
  3. To remove a page, simply click on that page (it will be highlighted in blue), and then click the trash can symbol at the bottom of the page. The page you highlighted will be removed.
  4. To remove a photo you've placed in your book, simply roll over it with your mouse and click the trash can icon. This will only remove the photo from its place in the Photo Book, not delete it from your selected photos or your Snapfish account.

Save Your Photo Book

  1. You don't have to complete your PhotoBook in one session. If you prefer, you can save it and return at any time to work on it again.
  2. Simply click on the "save for later" button at the bottom left of the screen.
  3. To return to your Photo Book, go to your photo library by clicking the "photos" tab at the top of most screens.
  4. Then click "projects" in the toolbar to the right of the page.
  5. Click "your projects" in the menu that opens up beneath "projects."
  6. You'll see any Photo Books (and calendars) that you have ordered or saved in the main part of the page. Click on any Photo Book to open it.

  2. First, click "preview book" at the bottom right of the page.
  3. On the following page, use the buttons at the bottom to page through your book. The button to the far left takes you back to the beginning, and the button on the far right takes you all the way to the end.
  4. To edit any page, click "edit this page" to be taken back to the build mode, where you can make any changes you wish.
  5. If you want to change anything else about your Photo Book, click the "back" button (NOT your browser's back button, but the one within the Photo Book page) to return to the previous page.
  6. When you're satisfied with your Photo Book, click "order book."

  3. On the next page, you'll see several options for ordering your Photo Book.
  4. On the left side of the page, you can order your book with different covers or in different sizes.
  5. On the right side of the page, you can choose the quantity of books your order. After your first Photo Book, each additional identical book (including the same cover) is 20% off.
  6. You can still edit your book by clicking "back to book" at the bottom of the page.
  7. When you have finished making your ordering decisions, click the box next to "Yes, I have reviewed my Photo Book."
  8. Then click "add to cart."

Note: Once you place your order, your Photo Book is saved in your Snapfish account. If you ever want to edit it or order more copies, just go to your photo library and click "projects" in the toolbar to the left of the page. Then click "previous projects," and you'll see all of the Photo Books (and calendars) that you have ordered in the main part of the page. Click on any Photo Book to open it.
